Garrett lauded for efforts
Lake County news briefs

State Sen. Susan Garrett, a Democrat from Lake Forest, is one of four legislators to receive the Legislator of the Year Award from the Illinois Primary Health Care Association. The statewide award is presented annually to legislators who have significantly assisted the association or its members. Garrett received the award in Springfield on Feb. 22. She helped secure funding for a specialty care and diagnostic testing program to provide a continuous system of care for uninsured patients served by the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center, an association member, and HealthReach Inc. Key partners of the program include Lake County United, the Lake County Medical Society and all Lake County hospitals. The hospitals have committed to donate specialty care and diagnostic tests to uninsured and underserved residents annually, over a period of three years. The program is expected to be fully operational by April.
