Garrett Gets the Job Done |
| By Chuck Wenk |
The more I read about State Sen. Susan Garrett, the more I marvel at how much she gets done. The latest effort among others concerns pay raises for legislators, a category that won't win her any awards from her fellow politicians. Her program: ensure that raises are not automatic, establish standards and criteria on which to base raises, ensure that board members who oversee the raises have no conflict of interest and to create a Web site where minutes of the meeting are posted and hearings on pay raises are covered via Webcast. Senator Susan also fought and is still fighting the truckers who refuse to pay tolls and wear out our roadways, creating traffic tie ups and have caused many fender benders and worse on roads they shouldn't be on! Way to go, Senator! You are a class act. So is your buddy Karen May of Highland Park, who works about as hard as you do! State Rep. Karen from the 58th District is also a winner for voter's rights. When the two of them are together on various podiums around their territories it looks like a style show! And don't let me forget Mark Kirk in the 10th District. Sure, Mark is a Republican and Karen and Susan are Democrats but they are all pros and we are lucky to have them. Mark Kirk would be an excellent choice for vice presidential candidate if they knew what they were doing!
