Back to Carping |
| By News Sun Staff |
OK, I said I was going to lay off the Asian carp thing. I am trying, but I am caught between the electrical-barrier boondoggle and the idea of keeping shipping going while protecting the Great Lakes. Maybe some answers will come out of this: Susan Garrett, an Illinois state senator from Lake Forest and chair of the Senate Environment Committee, will be holding a hearing on Thursday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. in the James R. Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph, room 16-503, Chicago, to address the matter of a long-term approach to addressing the Asian carp in Illinois waterways. "It's time to reassess what we've done and to see if we can come up with a more effective approach," Garrett said. "Everybody wants to see this problem solved. It's vital not just for Illinois, but the whole region." |
