GARRETT RECEIVES AWARD FROM AUTISM ONE

HIGHWOOD, Illinois – State Senator Susan Garrett (D-Lake Forest) was recognized for her leadership on autism legislation, and for addressing the issues that face families of children with autism, at the Autism One conference in Rosemont on May 26.

“Senator Garrett has been a strong leader for us in Springfield and has demonstrated her dedication to families of children with autism,” said Laura Cellini of Autism One.

Garrett passed critical legislation (House Bill 4125) that requires insurance to cover speech therapy services for children with autism. Additionally, Garrett has held several hearings addressing educational health care needs of the growing population of autistic children.

“Every day we are learning that autism is affecting more and more children. It is critical that legislators, support organizations, and the health care industry work together to provide opportunities and resources for these children and their families,” said Garrett.

Autism One is a nonprofit organization started by parents of children with autism to address education, advocacy, and fundraising for autism research.
