GARRETT OBTAINS FUNDS FOR LAKE BLUFF LIBRARY

HIGHWOOD, Illinois—State Senator Susan Garrett (D-Lake Forest) announced that the Lake Bluff Public Library will receive $120,000 in state grant money for replacement of its furnace and necessary additional structural modifications.

The library’s old furnace failed late in the winter, and the library board and staff learned that there was no possibility of a simple repair or replacement. Because of the way the building was constructed, replacing the furnace could require major reconstruction of the infrastructure and ductwork. The library was forced to close for several days in March while staff used heat-saving measures to bring the temperature up to adequate levels to reopen.

“This state grant is a fabulous reflection of our community’s support of the library and of our state’s recognition of the important role that libraries play for all our citizens,” said Karen Bush, Lake Bluff Library Board President.

“This catastrophic event comes at a time when the Lake Bluff Public Library has been working hard to increase its collection and provide more varied services to the residents of Lake Bluff,” said Senator Garrett. “The state recognizes the library’s need and is pleased to provide the necessary funding.”
