HIGHWOOD, Illinois – State Senator Susan Garrett (D-Lake Forest) announced eight nominations for the 2006-2007 General Assembly Scholarships for full tuition to Illinois state universities. Garrett formed an independent committee of community leaders to select the students who will receive scholarships.

The eight students who have been awarded full one-year scholarships are: Hiral Patel of Des Plaines, Jie Chou of Des Plaines, Peter Kimball of Deerfield, Heather Rafferty of Highland Park, and Kelsey Lofstrand of Lake Bluff, all to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; Cristal Solorio of Prospect Heights and Mohammed Barakat of Highland Park, to Northern Illinois University; and Allison Fishbein of Highland Park, to Illinois State University.

“I am so pleased that our office was able to help these talented students begin or continue their college educations. As expected, these scholarships were highly competitive and sought after. All of the students deserve to be congratulated for their solid record of achievement,” Garrett said.
