HIGHWOOD, IL— State Senator Susan Garrett (D – Lake Forest) today passed a measure through the Illinois Senate that creates an Inspector General for the Illinois Toll Highway Authority.
The Inspector General (IG) will be responsible for investigating fraud, corruption and mismanagement at the Toll Highway. The Tollway Inspector General will be appointed by the Governor, with advice and consent of three-fifths of the Senate for a term of five years.
"Creating a position for an Inspector General for the Tollways ensures a closer look into their daily operations and much greater oversight," Senator Garret said. "Additionally, the IG will have the authority to audit and investigate contracts that have, in the past, been subject to insider deals."
Senate Bill 3118 moves to the House of Representatives where it awaits a vote.
