Measure to end tollway mismanagement sent to governor
Illinois State Senator Susan Garrett pushes for Illinois Tollway reform

HIGHWOOD, IL—A reform measure sponsored by Illinois State Senator Susan Garrett (D – Lake Forest) advanced today. The State Senate concurred with the House of Representatives on a proposal intended to promote accountability and reform Illinois’ Tollway Authority.

The measure creates an Inspector General (I.G.) position for the Illinois Toll Highway Authority. The I.G. will be responsible for investigating fraud, corruption and mismanagement at the Toll Highway. The Tollway Inspector General will be appointed by the Governor, with advice and consent of three-fifths of the Senate for a term of five years.

“Creating a position for an Inspector General for our Tollway system ensures much greater oversight into their day-to-day operations and helps prevent any types of mismanagement,” Senator Garrett said. “The Inspector General will have the authority to audit and investigate contracts that have, in the past, been subject to insider deals.”

After passing both chambers, Senate Bill 3118 has been sent to the governor for his approval.
