GARRETT TO HOLD HEARING TO ADDRESS OVERSIGHT OF DRIVERS EDUCATION PROGRAMS

HIGHWOOD, Illinois – Majority Caucus Whip and State Senator Susan Garrett (D-Lake Forest), member of the Senate Committee on Education, will be holding a hearing to examine the Oversight of Drivers Education Programs in the State of Illinois. Expected to testify on the costs and funding of drivers education, as well as oversight and safety standards of driver education programs include: the Illinois State Board of Education, the Secretary of State, the Illinois State Police, the Illinois High School and College Driver Education Association, the Illinois Association of School Administrators and the Illinois Education Association.

"Drivers education should be affordable for all students, whether enrolled in public high school driver's ed or in commercial driving schools. In addition, we must also ensure the quality of the programs by establishing uniform requirements for curricula and instructor qualifications. The public and commercial programs must meet the same standards," Garrett said.
