GARRETT RECEIVES AWARD FOR HELPING DISABLED |
|
HIGHWOOD, IL— State Senator Susan Garrett (D – Lake Forest) received an award for her leadership in securing free rides on public transit for low-income people with disabilities. The award was given to Garrett by Access Living of Metro Chicago, a leading organization in addressing issues for the disabled in Illinois. “People who have disabilities are faced with so many barriers in life. By providing free access to public transportation, we are ensuring that the ability to travel to and from work, to keep doctors’ appointments, do shopping and take care of other necessities is easily attainable,” said Garrett. The award was presented to Garrett in Chicago on December 3, 2008. Other recipients of the award are Senator John Cullerton, Representative Kathy Ryg, and Representative Julie Hamos. |
